Trinity Society
Ideas For Lent/Easter Celebrations - 2016
Prepared and Issued By:

Very Rev. Helena Opoku-Sarkodie

I. BACKGROUND

In keeping with tradition, the period of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday, is a period of spiritual reflection during which Christians are called to reflect on their relationship with the Triune God(Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and other creations – human and non-human. The general call is “to return to the Lord your God.” The one way this period of Lent has been observed is through fasting and prayer over a period of 40 days (not counting Sundays). This year Lent begins on Wednesday February 10th and ends on Saturday March 26th, 2016. Then follows Easter on Sunday March 27th, 2016.

II. WHAT WE INTEND TO DO

• To celebrate Ash Wednesday with an evening service
• To encourage members to take part in the fasting and prayer session as individuals, families and or as groups/ Organisations/ Classes.
• To encourage each member to set aside each day of the fasting, GHC2.00 as “sacrificial offering” and to accumulate this over the 40 days to a total of GHC80.00 which will be presented as Easter offering.
• To hold a teaching reflections on Wednesdays- following the Class Meetings that will be held.
• To attend a Diocesan Crusade at the Black Star Square from 9th -13th March with Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, Theme: “Washed in the Blood of Jesus”
• To celebrate Easter Sunday with hymns and praises and also receive the Special Lent Offerings.
• To hold a picnic on the Easter Monday either alone or with the Circuit or the Local Council of Churches.
• To encourage general silence and more reflective music/worship throughout the period of Lent.
• To focus our thoughts on the Church’s theme for the year: “ Witnessing to Christ: Our Methodist Identity and Social Impact”

THEME: FORGIVENESS
