THE ARMOUR OF LIGHT/ RIGHT LIVING
By Divine & Polly Kumah
Tel: 0277-412405 Email: sonlifeghana@yahoo.com

Rev. 17:14; Phil. 2; Gen 17:1-2; Matthew 24:42, 44

WHAT IS THE TIME?

Rom 13:11-14, TLB
11 Another reason for right living is this: you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for the coming of the Lord is nearer now than when we first believed.
12-13 The night is far gone, the day of his return will soon be here. So quit the evil deeds of darkness and put on the armor of (light) right living, as we who live in the daylight should! Be decent and true in everything you do so that all can approve your behavior. Don't spend your time in wild parties and getting drunk or in adultery and lust or fighting or jealousy.
14 But ask the Lord Jesus Christ to help you live as you should, and don't make plans to enjoy evil.

WHAT IS THE LIGHT?

1 John 2:1-11, NIV
2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands.
4 The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him:
6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.
8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. 9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.
10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.
11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.

1 Thess 5:1-11, NIV

Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,
2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.
5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL WARFARE?

The waging of armed conflict against an enemy. They come in the form of battles, which are fought on different fronts, for different reasons and with varying degrees of intensity. It may be between two persons, factions or armies, as contest, struggle or controversy.

WHAT IS THE DEVIL’S AGENDA/STOCK IN TRADE?

John 10:10, NIV
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy

WHO IS THE BATTLE AGAINST?

Over the Devil – Rom 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. NIV
Over the flesh – Rom 7:22-23 I truly delight in God's commands, 23 but it's pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge.
Enemies – Ps 38:19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. NIV
Over the world – John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." NIV
Over all that exalts itself – 2 Cor 10:5-6 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. NIV
Over death and the grave – Isa 25:7-8 On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; 8 he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. NIV

CHARGE:

Eph 6:10-18, NIV.

Finally,
1. be strong in the Lord and
2. in his mighty power.
HOW? – 11 Put on the full armor of God
WHY? – so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF THE BATTLE?

• 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
• but against the rulers,
• against the authorities,
• against the powers of this dark world and
• against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

METHOD/REASONS REPEATED

1. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God,
• so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground,
• and after you have done everything, to stand.

THE ARMOUR: Eph 6:14-18

1. 14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and
2. having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,
3. 15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. [Isa 52:7.]
4. 16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].
5. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and
6. the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.
7. 18 Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty.

ASSIGNMENTS

With this in mind,
• keep alert and
• watch with strong purpose and perseverance,
• interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people).
• 2 Tim 2:3-5, NIV – Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
• 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs — he wants to please his commanding officer.

STRATEGIES OF WARFARE

1. the ambush with liers-in-wait resorted to by Joshua at Ai (Josh 8:3 ff);
2. the feint, resorted to by the Israelites against the tribe of Benjamin (Judg 20:20 ff);
3. the flank movement, adopted by David in the Valley of Rephaim to rout the Philistines (2 Sam 5:22 f); and
4. the surprise, inflicted successfully at the Waters of Merom upon the Canaanites under Jabin by Joshua (Josh 11:1 f);
5. one-on-one combat;
6. the champion – Goliath/David – 1 Kings 17.

THE WARFARE

3. What other weapons can I use?

He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

THE WARFARE

3. What other weapons can I use?

Col 2:13-15
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
